Brutus & Barnaby has recalled all sizes of “Pig Ears 100% Natural Treats for Dogs” because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Dogs can be infected with Salmonella if they eat a contaminated treat. Humans also face a potential health risk, according to the recall notice:
“There is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.”
Bags of our Brutus & Barnaby Pig Ears were distributed nationwide on Amazon.com, Chewy.com, Brutusandbarnaby.com and the brick-and-mortar shop Natures Food Patch in Clearwater, Florida.
The recalled products were sold in 8-count, 12-count, 25-count and 100-count bags.
The company has stopped production and distribution while the FDA and the company investigate the source of the problem.
The FDA and CDC are currently warning pet owners not to buy or feed their dogs any type of pig ears due to an outbreak of Salmonella illnesses that has sickened at least 143 people in 33 states, including 26 children under 5 years old.
Consumers who bought Brutus & Barnaby pig ears are urged to destroy any remaining product and to contact the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-489-0970 Monday-Friday 9am-5 PM EST.
